Takeaways on Copyright, Intellectual Property and Podcasting

 

The following were comments, suggestions and questions from teachers in Rockwall ISD during our videoconference about intermediate/advanced podcasting topics on December 8, 2006.

 

Takeaways for Copyright / IP Session

• hardware / software of podcasting at different levels

• Freeware / open source tools

• More on Creative Commons (database of things)

• Engagement goes beyond what you say: look and listen carefully, let students tell stories

• At some point kids have to become the filter

• All file sharing and remixing is not illegal

• What is legal and not legal to do (public exposure)

• How are we going to use this tool effectively without abusing

• People need repetition (multiple times)

• Ramifications of kids social networking (often adults are not in the conversation)

• Podcasting can be a difficult process, even subscribing
