Lead Differently: Digitally Informed School Leadership for the 21st Century

School administrators need to understand the implications changes in information and digital communication modalities should have for teachers and students in schools. This all-day workshop for administrators focuses on understanding the implications of these changes for learning, and empower campus principals to be constructive change agents for appropriate and constructive digital learning.

  1. Understand Change in Context: Reflect on and better understand the implications of rapid, discontinuous change and ubiquitous access to the world stage for 21st century learning
  2. Blended Learning: Understand and Practice Blended Learning - powerfulblending
  3. Action Plan: Resolve to follow a personal action plan for digitally informed school leadership

Guiding Philosophies

  1. 80/20: 80 percent of our learning time should be spent in conversations, hands-on activities, and interaction. 20 percent of our learning time (or less) should be spent passively listening to lecture (otherwise we sit, get and forget)
  2. 21st Century Skill Focus: Students and our society need more than a learning focus on test prep and test passing (invitation to use a different lens) - Partnership for 21st Century Skills framework, Enguage Executive Summary
  3. 2001 Revision of Bloom's Taxonomy: Elevating discourse to promote critical thinking skills
  4. Habits of Mind: It is not enough to learn facts, we must help our students and fellow educators cultivate our thinking skills
  5. Good Leadership Matters: It's easy to teach or lead poorly. Inspired, visionary and passionate leadership makes a difference.
