Podcasting
Course Description:
Podcasting can be used in powerful ways to motivate students to develop their traditional as well as digital literacy skills. It can be done safely, is relatively inexpensive, and fairly easy to learn with any Internet-connected computer and a basic microphone. This session explores examples of successful classroom podcasts and demonstrates how teachers can start their own classroom podcast.

Requirements:
- Internet-connected computer
- Audacity software installed (free)
- Computer microphone
- File publishing procedures

Examples
Follow-up activity
Participants will create a podcast with students and share it with other teachers in their building at a staff meeting, and send a copy to the district instructional technology department.

Digital Storytelling
Course Description:
Storytelling is an activity that goes back to the cave, and it can be used effectively across grade levels and content areas to help students demonstrate their understandings of concepts and processes, as well as create electronic artifacts that serve as tangible evidences of student learning.

Interactive Videoconferencing
Virtual Field Trips
Interactive videoconferencing provides out outstanding modality for engaging students in the learning process and permitting them to experience new learning opportunities that might otherwise be impossible. In this session, we will explore different options for K-12 virtual field trips using videoconferencing and discuss the requirements for setting up the videoconference and actually connecting. We'll discuss ways to activate student schema with pre-conference activities, and learn how to use searchable databases to locate content providers offering videoconference sessions aligned to specific curriculum.
Classroom Collaborations with Videoconferencing
Educational research and experience demonstrates that student engagement is a key ingredient for learning. A wealth of possiblities for classroom collaborative projects are now available because of web 2.0 resources, as well as videoconferencing. This session explores project examples, ideas, and resources teachers can access to get started collaborating with students!

This workshop is for math and science educators already familiar with the basics of using an interactive whiteboard. We'll explore a wide variety of digital curriculum resources directly correlated to math and science curriculum objectives, and learn how these resources can be effectively utilized in INTERACTIVE ways to engage students and boost their achievement.
Course Description:
With just a computer and Internet access you can Webquest. Since early in 1995, teachers everywhere have learned how to use the web well by adopting the WebQuest format to create inquiry-oriented lessons. But what exactly is a WebQuest? What does it feel like to do one? How do you know a good one when you see it? In this workshop you're going to address with these questions and more.
Learner Outcomes:
- Participant will be able to define and identify components of a webquest
- Participant will be able to analyze and discuss aspects of high quality and low quality Webquest design
- Participants will be able to search for existing Webquest
- Participants will be able to use tools to create thier own Webquest

- Marratech Commercial, cross-platform desktop videoconferencing software used by ESSDACK in Hutchinson, Kansas
- Vyew is free web conferencing and collaboration tool (does not currently support videoconferencing, however)
- Skype is the best FREE desktop videoconferencing solution I know of that is cross-platform
- iChat AV is free, Macintosh-only videoconferencing software
- Trillian Pro software (commercial but not expensive) supports videoconferencing with other Trillian as well as iChat users (cross-platform)
- Ekiga (formerly Gnomemeeting) is an open-source H.323 based videoconferencing solution for Linux distributions. A Windows port is apprarently under development but not available yet.
- XMeeting is an open-source H.323 videoconferencing software program for Macintosh OS X.
