Jan: my kids text each other in the same room
Walta: I want to learn more tools to use because I already use lots of tools I would like to learn to use twitter
BarbInNebraska: @SandraR2002 it's blocked at my school
Super Jill: I want to use Twitter in the classroom, maybe with the kids' cell phones, but cell phones are a big NO NO in school, right now.
BarbInNebraska: I'd love to show @astro_Mike tweeting from Space to my students
wierd: how?
klmontgomery: http://twitter.com/klmontgomery
rsziegler: Is this site free or subscription based?
dkhill: Corina, we'll find out after the other sites are given. :-)

Zachary: Yes, but they get mildly upset.
SandraR2002: i don't know what wikis are... what r they?
Super Jill: Hey, Walta...you learned all that in Web 2.0 Boot Camp last summer, didn't you?
paula: Super Jill--have you considered setting them up on wikimail? safe and limited to membersif you set it up that way. I use that with 3rd graders!
juliana: so much is blocked at my school that in the word refrigerator brought up a lot of blocked sites
Walta: I also have diigo and delicious acounts and know about voice thread which is great
Super Jill: @paula...good idea! I'll try that!
paula: I prefer wikipsaces--find it easier and more intuitive thatn PBWiki.
Gari Larkin: they are a web based teacher web site that is inter active between student and teacher
SandraR2002: ur tech director can unblock certain sites, can't they???
John Peters: If anyone wants the YouTube videos of "the book" here is the tiny url http://tinyurl.com/2ejqvc
klmontgomery: Walta - I love PBWORKS!
Wesley: Here is the link to our videos today! http://www.speedofcreativity.org/resources/videos-for-pd/
Zachary: Our tech director can but it is like an act of congress.
klmontgomery: My wiki is http://thinkingmachine.pbworks.com
juliana: they do not want to do that apparently but oddly some unblocked sites bring up stuff you would not believe so it is sort of pointless
BarbInNebraska: I love this video!!!!
paula: wikis are simply a web site that can have multiple members collaborate and create ONE of mine is at http://crozetmath0809.wikispaces.com/iPodPilot .
Super Jill: Thanks for the info, paula!

klmontgomery: We've all met or had teachers with one or more of these attitudes.
BarbInNebraska: Delicious! Love it!

dkhill: Skype, YouTube, etc. Those that have the power won't listen to unblocking.
BarbInNebraska: @dkhill there are ways to get around the block on YouTube! I'm sure Wes will show you how today. :-)
BoSox Fan: A lot of people can't get out of their comfort zone to be different. Many have lost imagination over the years.
paula: Walta, Where'd you get the 1000 piece puzzle you used last year?
BarbInNebraska: @BoSox Fan I Used to be nervous about being different but technology is SO much fun and I just can't stop using it. So many cool ways to make my normal project digital.
paula: We have skype unblocked.
Zachary: The same administrators that lack imagination gripe over having teachers with little imagination.
Jeff: you can also use teachertube
paula: and you tube, too. . the only one that is blocked is Facebook--but that's because our Sup't uses social networking tools.
BoSox Fan: Barbinnebraska I was lucky to have started teaching at a school that had some exceptional teachers that thought outside the box and I wanted to be like that.
Walta: at my school I could not get delicious at first, but I could get diigo
Jeff: @dkhill - you might approach them to setting up the faculty block settings different than the students
Corina: dkhill, I can understand that...sorta. If teachers aren't paying attention to what students are doing it could get bad
danna from x.x.x.199 joined the chat 6 hours ago
BoSox Fan: @Zachary I can agree with that.
juliana: they actually "watch" what people try top pull up and if they try to pull up too much "inapproprite" stuff they get hauled into the office to discuss it and one dual credit student was blocked from using the computer at school so there went dual credit
Jeff: I have our filter split into students and staff - so that the teachers can get to items (like youtube) that I don't want the students to have access to
BarbInNebraska: Teachers have to be Good Digital Citizens first!
alsilverfang from x.x.x.199 joined the chat 6 hours ago
Jennifer M.: that's a good idea @Jeff
juliana: maybe I will talk to the tech people and ask them about that--they are right next door to me
Super Jill: Can the filtering software through the service center split our filtering into students and staff?
Corina: @BarbInNebraska yes that is so true
Zachary: Calf Fries anyone?
BarbInNebraska: @Corina just listened to a very good podcast this morning called Always On about this topic.
paula: Walta, Where'd you get the 1000 piece puzzle you mention you used w your GT kids last year?
John Peters: @BarbInNebraska AMEN, Teachers have to set the example for their student's learning, including computers and technology
BarbInNebraska: Check out the Always On podcast later! http://web.me.com/alwayson/AlwaysOn/Podcast/Podcast.html
Jennifer M.: Yeah! Using cell phones! :)
juliana: ok, zachary, tell me have you helped "create" them in the first place?
Jennifer M.: **gasp :)
klmontgomery: We nee to redefine a beginner when it comes to technology. Just saying, "I'm not techie," just doesn't work anymore.
alsilverfang: How do we make these tools available when the leaders of "blockers" fear the great unknown
paula: I wrote on my blog yesterday about a situation of one of my 8 year olds multi-tasking: tzstchr.edublogs.com
Pat: the web voting is disabled today
BarbInNebraska: @alsilverfang just keep talking about how to use the tools, they will cave!
klmontgomery: Web voting is disabled?
Zachary: Creat what
John Peters: Yes, you will have to use a cell phone to record your vote
Pat: i just tried to vote and got a red disabled box
Corina: Our principal allows us to use polleverywhere.com with our kids. The kids love it and they know they have to turn their phones back off when we are through
Pat: i don't text - it's not in my plan
John Peters: we will fix the web voting in just a minute
Jennifer M.: Wes just enabled Web voting

Super Jill: @Jeff - thanks for the info!
dkhill: My question is how do you find the time to be on all of these social networks? I'm on flickr, facebook, delicious, scholar and subscribed to several podcasts. I feel like I'm glued to my computer.
klmontgomery: http://delicious.com/popular/XXX - Where XXX is the tag.
dennis: i can't find a TEKS for this
John Peters: @BarbInNebraska and @ dkhill I will try to ask Wes your qestions in just a moment
Linda: maybe it's on the "Test"
Susan: Has anyone noticed that he never slows down to let us figureout where he's at????? !!!
klmontgomery: http://delicious.com/tag/science astronomy
Jeff: @Super Jill - it depends on how your network logins are setup. The logins just have to be in 2 separate groups - 1 staff and 1 student. if they have any questions, I am at Miami ISD
klmontgomery: OOPS - http://delicious.com/tag/science astronomy
Susan from x.x.x.98 changed name to suzysouth 6 hours ago

BarbInNebraska: @dkhill when I have a wiki question, I post on Twitter and get a question answered PDQ
